Travertine is a cost-effective option for those looking for an aesthetically pleasing natural stone that is bound to withstand the ever changing design trends without scrimping on durability and strength. Whether you’re looking to create a spa like ambience in your bathroom, or you’re looking to create a sophisticated atmosphere in a restaurant or hotel, travertine elegant appearance is fantastic at leaving a lasting impression wherever it is placed. As time has progressed and the popularity of travertine just seems to always be increasing, factories across the globe have started to produce this popular stone in different finishes, sizes and shapes, which has only made travertine even more popular with its versatility and charm. Here at Ionic Stone, we stock our travertines in a number of different finishes to suit different tastes.
Honed & Filled
To create a honed and filled finish, the pittings within the tiles are first filled with a cement-based filler before being ground down with pads to create a smoother matte finish, these tiles are then left unpolished.
Tumbled & Unfilled
Tumbled tiles are placed in a machine to wear down the surface to create a worn and rustic look, the pittings are also left unfilled in these tiles to add to the affect.
Brushed & Chiselled Edge
The edges on these tiles have a heavier chipped look in comparison to the tumbled tiles. The rough irregular edge on these tiles help to create an aged and weathered appearance.
Can they be used outdoors?
You definitely can! But depending on the application method, we do recommend the tiles to use to be 30mm thick, using travertine tiles any thinner than this will not be able to withstand harsh weather conditions and could end up breaking. Travertine is a popular choice for patios and pool areas because of its durability allowing patios to last for many years and its versatility helping it blend beautifully into most design schemes.
Will they need sealing?
All natural stone needs some extra care due to its porous nature. We recommend that travertine tiles are sealed before and after grouting and then resealed once every 6 months to a year depending on the foot traffic in the area. We supply a range of sealants and maintenance products to help keep your tiles looking fresh for many years to come.
